| Customer Reviews: Poor February 18, 2010 Magic Pink 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The only thing this guide gives is the locations of various Georama members so you can find them quickly. Otherwise it's no help at all.
Incomplete Guide February 11, 2010 G. Misc I have to agree with the other reviews written so far for this strategy guide. While the written walkthrough is perfectly fine, the text often references the included maps, almost always incorrectly matching up a grid number (for example, A3) with the actual location on the map. Also, there are various points numbered on the maps, but no key or reference anywhere indicating what the numbers mean. Incredibly frustrating.
Clearly, the guide was written and published in haste, and is incomplete in its current state. Don't drop your cash on this; find an online guide instead. It's not totally useless, but the information is often wrong.
A terrible guide for those wanting detailed information February 9, 2010 C. K. Mendoza (Los Angeles, CA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Though the walkthrough portion of the guide is sufficient, there are a few areas that lack any of the detailed information I was looking for:
Skill Charts
The only information in this part of the guide that cannot be found in-game is the pre-requisites for each skill. Even this information is not organized in a very useful manner, presented as text in a chart alphabetized by skill rather than listed as they are in-game. Detailed information that one would get upon purchasing a skill, such as the strength of each skill or their Action Chip costs, is nowhere to be found.
Materials
The numerous charts in the guide take up many pages, but all lack one very important element: where they can be found! Instead they've decided to include the short descriptions, which are not helpful in any way. If a player wanted to farm these materials, they would need to scan through the lengthy bestiary instead.
Stats
All throughout the walkthrough section there are tips regarding what skills to purchase, many times including stats such as vitality, dexterity, etc. Nowhere in the entire guide is any thorough explanation of what these stats mean, how they effect gameplay, or what advantages one character has over another.
Maps
The maps included along with the walkthrough are exact replicas of the large map you can see in-game, and have no added icons marking treasures, gather points, or larger enemies. This makes them just about useless.
Though the walkthrough is useful, anyone who wishes to find out some of the more detailed information about this game would be wise to instead reference the White Knight Chronicles Neoseeker wiki. It is a work in progress, but will eventually have much of the information lacking in this strategy guide.
Typical BradyGames Guide February 8, 2010 C. Davenport 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is your typical BradyGames guide, several typos and short on information. Unfortunately it is all you have at the release of the game since online guides (at least good ones) do not exist... yet.
Maps:
These are helpful to see the entire zone; the map in game is zoomed in really far so you have to scroll around to see different areas making it difficult to get the overall picture. The downsides to the maps are they don't show anything but logic stone locations (save points). They do not tell you where harvest points are and they do not tell you where treasure chest locations are. In the text of the guide they will tell you some of these, but far from all of them. I could forgive them on the gather locations since there are a lot of them on each map, but not the treasure chests. I trusted the guide at first to let me know where those where, but when I went back later to do some grinding and to collect resources I found several more in areas that were not a direct path to the next story objective. Very disappointed in this.
General Walkthrough:
This is decent enough; it will guide you through all the puzzles in the game and keeps you on track for finishing the story. As mentioned above, it will point out some of the gather locations and treasure chests. It gives you the map grid location, you then must search within that grid for it. Sometimes it is more specific (Southwest corner for example) but not always. I have found some errors though, like telling you to go somewhere you can't because you need to complete a story event first. It will also tell you how to build your characters (in a general sense) if you need that kind of advice.
Boss Strategies:
They work, but I sometimes wonder if they even played the game. I imagine the advice would be more useful if you did a minimal level play through of the game, the advice plays up the boss fights as if they'll be very difficult when most are not. These are not bad though.
Quests:
Each online quest has a page in the guide to explain it. There is a table listing the boss and drops you can expect for each variation they have (Guild Rank can change the quest: Higher rank = Harder boss). There are some typos in this section which makes things annoying.
Bestiary:
This section is pretty good actually. It lists monster weaknesses and strengths along with drops and their rates. The list is also in alpha order instead of some arbitrary order. The list is broken into two sections, large monsters and normal sized monsters.
Equipment lists:
Big list of equipment, another useful section. It lists all the weapons, armor, and accessories along with what items you need to fully enhance them or to bind them (craft) in the first place.
Item List:
Really hate this section. It's just a big list with the prices that they cost (if you buy them in your Georama). This isn't useful at all. What would have been useful is if the guide told you HOW and WHERE to get these items. When you need a bunch of items to bind an item or build a georama part you are going to want to know how to get them, and get them fast (highest drop rate). Sadly, this guide does not tell you any of that. You'll have to search through the bestiary and find it yourself. One of the entries is missing, it even throws the table formatting off, very obvious typo that makes you wonder if this guide was proof read at all.
Georama stuff:
There are a few sections on the Georama aspect of the game, I'll lump my comments together about it. It will list out all of the parts you can build, the items needed to build them, the cost, and the benefits it will give. There is a section that shows every NPC you can recruit and what their stats are, and what city they are in. What this section really lacks is a section that tells you what level you need on the different stats to get items for sale in your general store. Again (as mentioned in my Items section) this would be VERY useful when you are trying to get specific items.
Overall:
I rate this guide as Below Average (that is what 2 stars means) because of the errors, typos, poor maps, and being absolutely no help on getting specific items (which is a huge part of the 'end game' in WKC). If you got it for just the story walkthrough and nothing else it's not too bad of a guide and it will get you through the game easily enough.
Wouldn't really recommend February 7, 2010 Lisa Newcomb (oologah) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The guide itself is nice looking and well made. It does good on talking about the items and general help info. But the maps *the part you will DEFINITELY want to be good* aren't that great. They show you where save points are and where you can enter/exit that area. But they don't show you where you can harvest items. They tell you in the paragraphs where it is located *example C3. The map is set up like a grid* but not where in the square the item chest or harvest items are. So you can be looking around for abou 5 minutes just combing through the grid square trying to find a patch of flowers the guide says is there. I wouldn't really recommend this guide to most people. There are a lot of dedicated guide writers online who will be a lot more help to you then this guid is when it comes to items. If you are just interested in character bios and stats it's ok but nothing fancy.
